Paul Laemmlen developed the Midnight Reaper to target large predatory trout in stillwater at night. Over the last six years it has accounted for numerous fish over two feet long in Western lakes. Its edge is sound: a glass rattle and metal bead-chain legs push noise and vibration into the water, drawing trout in when they can’t see the fly. Every Midnight Reaper is tied by Paul to the standard he’d demand if he were fishing it himself.

The Three Weights

1. Heavy: 6×6mm black tungsten conehead, 0.12 oz
2. Medium: 5×4mm black tungsten conehead, 0.10 oz

How to Fish It

Fish the Reaper on anything from a floating to a full-sinking line, and pick the weight that matches the depth you’re targeting.
